Thank you everyone, this does help me a lot, this is my mother who has posted that thread years ago that I had no idea about :)

I'm just more thinking about looking down the line of the Stuart family as this name is in our family now, it must be the surname of my grandad and his mother rather than Boa?

Any suggestions?

I would agree on the surname being your ancestor & the 'Boa' being the 'Reputed' father as a lot of illegitimate children were given their father's surname as a middle name although not always, sometimes the forename & his mother's maiden name.

No strict rules to follow but clues to help which was nice of them for us  :D

All I can say is, it's an enjoyable journey & soon you will be hooked.

You will also be glad your ancestors are Scottish, so much less expensive.
