19 Century Pubs Limekiln Lane, Liverpool
« on: Thursday 30 March 17 23:45 BST (UK) »
Hoping someone can help.

Mary Gorst, Publican, is shown living in Limekiln Lane in 1841 census with some of her family, this is the first family in the book.  Assuming that she lived in a pub, I am wondering if anyone knows which pub this is likely to  be.
Does anyone know the whereabouts of the Bevington Bush in Limekiln Lane, could it have been this pub? Or any other suggestions as to the possible name of the pub?  I have tried locating it in subsequent censuses without any luck, to see if it has got a name in any of them.

Some "publicans" just sold from their own homes.  Looking at the 1841 entry there were only 3 occupants - Mary, her daughter and a 7yr old.  No servants etc to suggest commercial premises

Thank you both.

According to your link, solidroock, Bevington Bush pub was not in Limekiln Lane. Other internet sources say that it was.

One example -
http://breweryhistory.com/wiki/index.php?title=List_of_Peter_Walker_%26_Sons,_Warrington_%26_Burton_Ltd._pubs

But none of the sources give the exact location!

CaroleW, I realise that she could have been selling from her own house, but it also might have been a pub.

She is with her daughter, Mary Ann Gorst and her grandson Henry Lyon. Three Gorst children I have worked out from various census and marriage records were children of William Gorst, farmer, and Mary MNU, the publican of Limekiln Lane.

Elizabeth Ann Gorst, born c 1810, married first William Lyon and then Jonathan Phillips.
Mary Ann Gorst, born c 1815, with mother Mary in 1841, married John Duckers, in 1851 Mary snr shown as his 'sister in law'
Jane Gorst, born c 1817, married Joseph Allen, also shown with John Duckers in 1851 as sister in law.

No definite baptism records found for any of them, possibilities for Elizabeth and Mary under the name of Gorse.

However, my main Gorst interest is not with these girls, but with a potential brother, William Richard Bevington Gorst, born c 1817.  I cannot definitely link him with this family, but he married just before census night in 1841. Address given as Limekiln Lane, father's name William Gorst, farmer.

I don't think they were the children of either William Gorst and Mary Hughes or William Gorst and Mary Kirkham.
