Land Tax Returns Wareham
« on: Friday 31 March 17 04:32 BST (UK) »
Hi
I'm a bit confused about the villages which would have been part of Wareham in the land tax returns. I'm following the tenant Sam Baker, renting from Thomas Roe. I find them on the Tax Return of 1809-12. Many of the names seem to be names on the Churchwardens records from Stoborough of that time. The thing I don;t get is the heading of the Land Tax Returns:

"Dorset
Blandford South
or Wareham Division
Dorset Tithing of Studland"

Was Studland the tithing district, which would have included Stoborough and neighboring villages? Or am I completely off in thinking he is in Stoborough (or Wareham for that matter)?

Any help clarifying would be gratefully received.

Thanks!
