Boer War Service Record
« on: Friday 31 March 17 09:58 BST (UK) »
Hi All

I have just discovered a newspaper article (In Brisbane Australia - 26 June 1900) it is an extract of a letter from T. Kerns to his Aunt, this family connection is at present unknown.

What my digging has identified is that T. Kerns was corporal with 16 Bearer Company RAMC 13 Brigade, his regimental number could be 10714 and his name may also have been spelt Kearns.

As I am in Australia I am relying upon the internet for my searches can anyone give me any suggestions on research sites that will give me further details on who T. Kerns was, name home address and any brigade details.

All advice and help appreciated.

Syd

As a starter - the record you have found is his listing in the Queen's South Africa Medal register which is downloadable for free from the National Archives http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C3763987  Its a big file but it confirms his presence and medal entitlement.

Can't at the moment find any other service record, other eyes may do better!

Thanks Max

I located him in the file and it shows his service up to transfer to #9 General Hospital, unfortunately it does not show his given name.
So still searching.

Cheers

Rosie99 and Christine53 - I knew other (dare I  say younger!) eyes would triumph - well done.  I'd agree that this is more than likely the T Kerns from the Boer War.  Well done!

Hope to hear from Syd R soon!

Thanks all, to use a military term I am blown away. more information than I expected how wonderful.

His aunt and cousin migrated to Aust in 1889 and both were nurses operating the a maternity facility (by todays description)

Greatly appreciated another piece of the puzzle found.

Cheers
