If Edward is named earlier (or obviously related to someone named earlier) could it be "onely a peece of plate"
Please help me to help you by citing sources for information.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!  :) :) :)

Gah, this will is so frustrating!

The lady who wrote it names a long list of people, and I have hoped that by tracking them and figuring out how they were related to her I would be able to figure out what I really wanted to know, but so far I have had absolutely no luck at all. *bangs head softly against desk*

This is the transcription I have, but I think it contains some mistakes so I am posting a snippet of the original will as well, just in case. Do you think Sir Edward is a Gosling, or do you think he might have any of the other names mentioned, or do we simply not know?

To my cousin Mildred Pilkington I give my chain of gold and a pair of three broad sheets
To my cousin Richard Butler I give twenty pounds
To my cousin Coldwell I give twenty pounds and a ring with a death's head
To my Cousin his wife my two gilt tankards and ten pounds of money and one of my upright bowls.
To my cousin Francis Gosling I give my parcel gilt bowl
To her daughter Marie twenty pounds
To my cousin Sir Edward Imley a piece of plate
To my cousin Mary Brinslie a gold ring with a ruby
To my Lady Goldsmith, her sister a ring with a Turkey
To my cousin Mary Robertson forty shillings to buy a ring

No wonder I couldn't find a Sir Edward Imley or Idney (I tried that too), lol.

Thank you so much again! This was great! :)

If you'd like help, tell us who wrote the will, and what you're trying to find out?

The will belongs to Margaret Butler, widow, who died in or about 1614. The will was proven then. I found a transcript, then the original will at Ancestry. I am trying to find out how she was related to Marie or Mary Bushell the elder (mentioned in the will). Finding out Margaret's maiden name would be a good first step :)

Of the (many, many) people in the will, this is as far I have been able to get. They have proved frustratingly hard to track :(

John Penchester or Pinchester, Gentleman, was from Catesby and married in 1592.

My Lady Goldsmith - Probably the same Lady Katherine Goldsmith, widow, who was burglared in 1616.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!  :) :) :)

I could have stared at that will for a hundred years and not figured that out.

I actually read through the page three times and stared for it a good ten minutes after that before I got it!!!

Thank you so much again! That was incredible! You're a life saver! :) :) :)

The Northamptonshire Visitation of 1618-19 helps a little with the Onley family, at least giving you the Goldsmith and Brindesley connection on pp. 121-122 ...

https://archive.org/stream/visitationsofnor00harvrich#page/122/mode/2up/search/onley

Katheren Onley married Francis Goldsmith 14 February 1585/86 St Giles Cripplegate, London (from the parish register).

Unfortunately this doesn't help with your Margaret Butler, although some Butler pedigrees can also be found by using the index to the Visitation.
