Stephen Palmer of Steeple Ashton
« on: Saturday 01 April 17 16:49 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find out more about Stephen Palmer, gent of Steeple Ashton. PCC Probate; 3/11/1703. But I can find no burial. He owned the manor of Tellisford, Somerset, but likewise there is no burial for him there. His last wife, Elizabeth, PCC Probate 9/7/1712, also has no recorded burial.
Although he spent most of the 1660s, 70s and 80s in Westminster, running an inn and lending money, I wondered whether he could be the Stephen Palmer, son of William, baptised at Steeple Ashhton 25/4/1628. The age would fit that on the marriage licence for his last marriage. 9he also named his son William). There is also a marriage to a Sarah Tooker at Steeple Ashton, 2/4/1651, and her burial on 25/4/1654/5 at Steeple Ashton. But my earliest confirmed record is the baptism of his daughter Elizabeth Palmer at St Clement Danes 15/10/1665.  His wife was then named as Joanna.

Thank you for your suggestions.
I have looked at the original of these wills at the Wiltshire Record Office, but there seemed to be no obvious connection with my man.
"Who do you think you are" magazine reported that Ancestry are about to publish PRs and Wills for Wiltshire, so I'll have another go to see if his baptism and burial might be stray events elsewhere.

Hi
The Wiltshire Burial index has the following
Stephen Palmer buried 11.10.1703 Steeple Ashton.
Elizabeth Palmore Steeple Ashton 23.2.1711
They are supposedly from the Bishops Transcripts.

There is also an inheritance dispute William Palmer v Walter Sloper 1703  Wiltshire about his estate  at the National archives C5/260/15

Thank you for drawing my attention to the burial records. The dates fit the probate details perfectly. It had been puzzling me just where they were laid to rest.
I have looked at the Sloper case records at the National Archive, which reveals interesting details of Stephen's business deals, but does not mention any blood relationship - I'll have to look again into that one.
As for Elizabeth Palmer, her life was short, she was buried at St Clement Danes 7th January 1666/7.
I am descended from her sister Mary, christened 10th February 1667/8, St Clement Danes.
Married Rev Stephen Wickstead, vicar of Hanney, Berks,  licence dated 21st December 1686.
