I very much appreciate all your assistance. What I am trying is to find the marriage of a William Morgan and a Mary Richards . Information from the birth certificate of my grandfather a John Morgan 1868 Pontypridd, the census shows he had a brother William born in 1863 ,birth never found. Have already purchased 5 marriage certificates of William and Mary, none inform me that William was a harpist. So as another way to locate the marriage looking at all marriages from1857- 1881 so as to see if any might throw up a William Morgan harpist . The one in 1858-59 is the first I am trying to find information about before I purchase another certificate, been looking now for over 10 yrs with no joy. Regards Eirwen

From the 1871 census, it would appear that Mary was born in Aberdare (and eldest son William was born in Merthyr as was the father harpist William) so I would try and look at the marriages and banns in Aberdare first. The district for Aberdare is Pontypridd, and for Merthyr Tydfil it is the district too if that is any help. I have a lot of family from Wales and most of the marriages cannot be found online as they are non-conformists.

Regards offline research what have you found to be the most effective places to look as a start point.  Do you have a checklist?  Thanks for any tips - predominately looking at a few hot spots in Monmouthshire, for now.

There are newspaper articles regarding a harpist William Morgan of near Pontypridd. This might be a different person, but there are too many similarities not to look at it.

16th September 1904: WELSH HARPIST MISSING
‘Mr. William Morgan, one of the most accomplished harpists Wales ever produced, has been missing from his home, the Tylers' Arms Hotel, Nelson, since the 29th of August. Known by has bardic title of "Ap Shenkin," he competed at many eisteddfodau in Wales, winning prizes galore, and had the honour of annexing the harp solo prize at the Chicago International Eisteddfod.’

‘The missing harpist is 36 years of age.’ That places his birth as 1868.

He married Miss Sevenoaks, daughter of a superintendent engineer, who died at West Hartlepool six years ago. The marriage was celebrated at St. Andrew's Church, Cardiff, in 1892.
