Lacy Bishop's Waltham

I've hit a brick wall with this family. My 4xGreat-grandfather was James Lacy, born in BW in 1739, married Ann O'Neil in Easton on 5 June 1776 and died in BW on 29 Feb 1808.
I was told, by another descendant, that James' father was John Lacy who was married to Ruth Fry but I'm wondering if there was another generation between James and John - Wm Lacy, married to Mary Toothaker. Does anybody have any information on this family, please?

Hi Angela,

Where did the birth and death information come from? Neither appear in the indexes published by the Hampshire Genealogical Society. The marriage at Easton is there (on 6th June not the 5th). All of the HGS indexes cover BW.

Hi again Angela,
I can see now where the confusion over marriage dates occurred. They were married by licence and the allegation is dated the 5th June. He is residing at BW, aged 32 and described as gent. She is residing at Easton, aged 28, spinster, marriage to be at Easton. This makes his birth year c1744 not 1739.

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you.
I had James Lacy born in 1744 to begin with but then found that there were two James Lacy's born in BW - one in 1739 or 1740 and the other in 1744. On reflection, I think I was right the first time (as are you) and that he was born in 1744. I have only recently got back into my genealogy and hoped that the usual websites might have acquired additional info in the meantime but no luck. I still don't know who James' parents were, or how the various Lacy's in BW connect with each other.

Checking the HGS baptism index only shows one James Lacy not two:
02 Jan 1740/1 James son of William & Mary Lacy at Bishops Waltham
The parent's marriage seems to be:
04 May 1728 Lacy William Toothaker Mary at Bishops Waltham
Jame's siblings (at BW) appear to be:
27 Aug 1727 William son of William Lacy & Mary Toothaker Lacy/Toothaker - natural born
20 Sep 1738 Mary daughter of William & Mary Lacy
15 Oct 1744 Mary daughter of William & Mary Lacy - attorney at law
23 Sep 1747 Catherine daughter of Wm & Mary Lacy - attorney at law
The note against the last two about William being an attorney is interesting and should make tracing him a little easier (probably).
