Of course I'll bear that in mind.

My wife's mother was born in ballinasloe county Galway newton beechill, woodlawns she was the youngest child of we think 10or 13 born June 1926, she had a child which she had to have adopted /fostered we think around 1940 to possibly 1947 my mother in laws name was Rita Hawkins

Can anybody shed any light on this the baby's father? I.e. The baby was also Rita

Many thanks

I would say it's almost impossible.

Your wife's mother may not have disclosed the identity of the father to anybody, even any authorities. The only way I can think of progressing this sort of query, in the absence of any information left in a will or some document by you wife's deceased mother, would be to try to contact the either the home where the baby was born or the local social services department. However information about an adoption or fostering may be subject to data protection and only available to the child herself. I do not know what laws cover this legal area in Ireland.
