also it says catherine was a minor and a spinster at marriage , so she could nt have been married before ??

She doesn't seem to have been married before - why do you think that?

It often happened that people invented a father for respectability or other reasons. In this case, as you say, she could have named Charles but she didn't.
It may be that she had been told her father was George and even though she was raised by Charles, she preferred to name George.

Sadly we don't know the answer. You can only record what you find, compare and see what shows.

sometimes for the sake of covering their illegitimacy the Grandfather's name could be entered as father - no proof had to be shown .
Assuming of course she was illegitimate .
If a marriage of K Charles Dewsbury to Ann could be found we will know if Ann was a spinster or widow when she married . Maybe she married george Smith and he died shortly after Catherine was born and then Ann married K Charles Dewsbury -but until we find some documentation we are just guessing

I looked at that and tried to find Martha earlier but not much luck. From memory, Sarah married someone called Somers- wonder if he was the brother of the man who married her sister.
Not that any of this helps us to find Charles' marriage. ::)

surely this would place kane charles with the family above ??, actually the rane charles and my kane charles are the same person, mis transcript, birthdate is exact , im going to look see if the other dewbury children from 1841 census have same parents
