Simpsons - St Mary's, Chelmsford Look Up Needed Please.
« on: Monday 03 April 17 22:14 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

According to FreeReg there is the following info re the Simpsons all taking place at St Mary's, Chelmsford & abode is Moulsham on all:

Joseph Simpson married Elizabeth Knowles on 12th Oct 1763

Children:

John 12th Oct 1764 (father given as John a gardener, is this actually Joseph?)
Martha 6th Feb 1771 (father Joseph)
Susanna 22nd Feb 1775 (father Joseph a gardener)

Elizabeth appears to die in 1777 and was buried 31 Jul 1777 & Joseph died in 1785, buried 5th May 1785.

Son John appears to marry Mary Hannah Myhill on 22nd Dec 1791 with a possible burial for John on 2nd March 1799.

What I need to know is:

Did Joseph & Elizabeth have any more than the 3 children listed above?
Did John & Mary Hannah have any children?
Is that Johns death in 1799 as it doesn't give an abode or age on FreeReg?

FreeReg shows only the three children listed above & familysearch shows nothing for these couples.

Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards

David

Parish registers St Mary
There are no ages or place of abode given for deaths.
Added there is an A for adult next to the death of John Simpson

I found no other children for Joseph and Elizabeth.

Re: John the father is given as John, a gardener of Moulsham, it could be a clerical error.

John who married Mary Hanna Myhill
Marianne baptized 3 August 1794
Dorcas bap 21 June 1796 father a gardener
Elizabeth bap 9 Feb 1798 of John Simpson and his wife Mary Hannah.
Note this has been transcribed as John Simpson Gardener on freereg, there should be a comma between Simpson and his occupation of gardener.
Thomas bap 4 March 1799 of John Simpson and his wife Mary Hannah.

The marriage of John Simpson to Mary Hannah Myhill was by license, witness George Clark an Samuel Courland. All could write.
The baptism of Dorcas 1796 has her father as a gardener

The marriage of Joseph Simpson to Elizabeth Knowles was also by license, the bride signs as Eliza Knowles.
