it is but i do not think it is "my" frederick.  i'm pretty sure that the person who gave me that info wass mistaken.  i found a record of that frederick on a surrey website and the birth dates do not match.

The marriage you found, however, certainly sounds like the parents of the correct Frederick.  I guess the next info I would be looking for would be the incarceration of his mother Jane.

She appears on court records for 1870 but was not jailed - just police supervision

There are a lot of reports about Fred Humpstone in the papers. In 1862 he appeared in Court , referred to as Navvy Fred of Gravel Walk , with the woman with whom he lived , Jane Draper , charged with robbing an old man of 10s of silver.

I'm wondering if Jane Draper is Jane Epps - I see there was a Humpsten , mmn Draper birth found earlier.

Jane seems to go by many names, she is Jane Parker in 1881  ;D

In January 1857 a Jane Draper appeared at Maidstone and was sentenced to 12 months for larceny.
This would tie in with the Maidstone birth ?

YES!!!  this is exactly what i was looking for, her son was born 2 moths after she was sentenced.  This is such a fascinating mystery!  I can't wait to share with my husband his family's shady past.
