Walsall, which Cemetery?
« on: Tuesday 04 April 17 11:52 BST (UK) »
I wonder if anyone can help me with this query ?
I have just received a death certificate for an ancestor who died 1927 and the address given is
 Back 22 High Street Walsall
I have found High Street on a map but need to know which cemetery is nearest and if there are any on-line burials recorded.

Thank you.

I would suggest that you contact Walsall Borough Council, as there appear to be a number of cemeteries within the area.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Ryecroft was the main cemetery. It's a huge lawn now and none of my relatives there have their headstones, they've all been removed.

Believe the Local History Centre is where my sister got the info where the graves were.

Main one is ryecroft , there is a james bridge, field road cemetery bloxwich. That's if there is n't a preorganised plot somewhere. There would be a few church burials. Walsall archives have listings for some of these but they have reduced hours and are open Tuesday and Wednesdays 10 am-4pm until they move to their new home in lichfield street in the old library in Walsall ? when..There's not many ryecroft burials on line, mainly what people have submitted. They are cemeteries in surrounding areas but ryecroft would be your nearest. Medpat we were posting at the same time!

Snap.

Used to go to Ryecroft to weed the graves of our relatives with mum as a child. I know mum's family were based in the Chuckery and were C of E, dad's lived Caldmore and North Walsall and Methodists and they were all in Ryecroft + a couple of mum's friends in the Roman Catholic area so it covered a big area and different religions.

Didn't know the centre was moving, have very recently been in contact with them re visiting when I'm in UK and they didn't say there was limited access.  ??? Thank you for that info Weste.
