John Egan
« on: Wednesday 05 April 17 00:05 BST (UK) »
Hello

Ive hit a brickwall trying to find where John Egan was born.
His date of birth is 22nd Jun 1873.
He married Margaret Wood 12 Oct 1901, Barrow in Furness.
Home Address: 28 Franklin Road, Barrow in Furness.
Occupation: Bricklayer - Father John Egan (deceased) General Labourer

On the 1901 census, he is not living at the address given on marriage cert at 28 Franklin Road.

By 1920, he is living at no.1 Chantlers Square, Eccles.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I think the 1901 census was taken in Feb/March
In 1911 there's a John Egan 38, bricklayer, married, a lodger in Doncaster.

Looking on familysearch I see there is a John EGAN b 1873 bricklayer in Spring St Bury, Lancashire in 1891.

He's with siblings:
Mary       27    Yorkshire
James      25    London
Margaret  21    Lancashire
John        18    Lancashire

RG12 / 3136/ 58

but I can't see the whole page at the moment - it looks like something is missing from this transcription as there's no head of household? So maybe if you could find it, it might have more info like their parents?

Oh ok, father James, tailor - not quite John, general labourer. Shame  :-\

In 1901, a John Egan 26, born Preston Lancashire, a bricklayer was in prison. It says that he is married.

One of the census records shows John, a bricklayer and a brother Joseph as lodgers.
There are births for a John Egan in 1873 Preston mmn O'Rourke and Joseph Egan in 1880 Preston mmn Rourke worth checking.
