That is the family in 1901 Census. My great grandfather, Daniel, came to Philadelphia for work. They were quite poor and Senator James McNicholl put out word in Glenullin that he would employ men who were willing to make the journey. Daniel came to the US, worked and saved money. Mary was "head of the household" during that time. He returned and they had two more children before she passed at the young age of 35 when my grandfather was 2 years old.

So my last bit of mystery is the birth date for Mary McCloskey, father Bernard. She was born in 1872  I am searching!

Wonder if 'Lisnascreagh' for Mary McCloskey in the 1896 civil record of marriage to Daniel McNichol is the same as 'Lisnascreghog' and if it reads across to these folk in 1901?

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Londonderry/Slaght/Lisnascreghog/1520450/

Following on from that thought, this looks like son Bernard's birth, parents Bernard McCloskey and Sarah, formerly Bradly, formerly McKeefry:
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1868/03445/2264829.pdf

There was a daughter born to this couple in 1870 called Mary:
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1870/03339/2223728.pdf

Pretty speculative, just worth noting for now until you can rule in or out.

Bernard may have been my great grandmother's (Mary) Brother. He was born in 1871. Mary in 1872.

My grandfather's name was Bernard. I get crossed eyed with so many of the first names passed on!

But this new information made my brother so happy. I was just able to tell him that he shared a birth date with his great grandfather, Daniel. And Daniel is my brother's middle name!

So cool!

OK..back to findng Mary McCloskey birth date in 1872.

The Mary at my reply #15 is my best guess for now (daughter of Bernard and Sarah McKeefry Bradly McCloskey), perhaps fresh eyes will find someone else, don't get too hung up on 1872, ages / birth years were more fluid back then.

You're welcome.

Just in case the Bernard McCloskey - Sarah McKeefry Bradly McCloskey trail is correct, just to note the following...

Kilrea RC parish, a Henry Bradley married a Sally McKeefry (parents Patrick and Elizabeth McKeefry) on 28 March 1853 (left page, 3rd entry up from bottom):
http://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000633026#page/42/mode/1up

I can also see a marriage of a Sarah McCafferty (McKeefry - McCafferty?) to a Bernard McCloskey in Ballerin Church, Garvagh RC parish on 30 August 1865, the address was Brockaghboy and her father was given as Patrick McCafferty, I wonder?

Edited to add:

Just noticed that Bernard and Sarah McCloskey of 'Lisnacreghog' are still alive in 1911:
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Londonderry/Slaght/Lisnascreghog/591514/

Then there is this 1921 death of a Bernard McCloskey, the age is out (reported age of 73) but the location is 'Lisnascreagh' and the informant is a Mullan nephew:
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1921/05106/4403464.pdf

And this 1916 death for a Sarah McCloskey, again the location is 'Lisnascreagh', the informant is husband Bernard, a farmer:

Without going into the detail (various BMD records), I've now seen enough to know that Lisnascreghog and Lisnascreagh are definitely interchangeable.  So the bottom line is that:

1. Mary McCloskey in her 1896 marriage record was shown as being from Lisnascreagh, the daughter of Bernard McCloskey, a farmer;
2. Five years later, the 1901 census shows only one McCloskey family living in Lisnascreghog - Bernard McCloskey, a farmer;
3. The details of Bernard and family in the 1901 census allow a reasonably robust trail back to Mary McCloskey born in 1870 in Brockagh to Bernard McCloskey and Sarah McKeefry.

So no guarantee, but feeling more positive that this is the right Mary.

Hello,

I just wanted to thank you again for your help. My 85 year old mother, Helen McNicholl, was so excited by the news that she could not sleep.

I wanted to share with you the grave marker that we will be replacing with a proper headstone.

The is the grave of Mary McCloskey McNicholl. The cemetery is at St. Joseph's Church in Glenullin.

We will have "Thy will Be Done" on the marker just at it is on the back of what is left of her cross.
