Mystery bracelet
« on: Wednesday 05 April 17 12:20 BST (UK) »
A friend's father (aged 80) has come across a bracelet which he thinks belonged to his father but doesn't know anything about it. I haven't seen it but apparently it's heavy and fits a lady's wrist.  It looks a bit 'industrial' to me with the odd lock mechanism or I wondered about Trench Art - although a quick google doesn't show anything like it - or something Masonic  ???

Those are my first thoughts but actually we don't have a clue. Hope I can attach the pix ok as we're on holiday & the internet connection isn't great  8)

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have seen a piece of very similar pattern from Rajasthan,a very heavy necklet with same design elements.
Is it of steel or silver?
The hinge and locking pin suggest an anklet. Could this be a Romani heirloom ?

seems to be modelled on a Saxon Torq ? (altho strictly they were worn round the neck, so not hinged ...)

Is it as heavy as a 1KG bag of sugar or more. :'(

What is the width of the item when fastned:)

Yes I thought it might be an anklet just because it apparently fits a lady's wrist but seems (to me)a very heavy design for a lady's piece. My friend doesn't know what it's made of but I believe there's no hallmark of any kind. The idea of a Romany connection is interesting. (Now off to google Rajasthan....)

Yes I agree, similar idea.

Sorry I haven't seen it but will ask next time I see my friend.

Thank you very much for all your replies.
