Actually thinking about it Cliff, Jimmie and sister Lizzie could be all one family and Lizzie isn't the sister of Arthur.

This one is tough.

Yes, see what you mean,
Not sure if they are all related or if he is just remembered under his stage name by colleagues perhaps? Sister with a capital S could denote a character not an actual sister or as you suggest another family?
The Stage 21 Dec 1933
Death
"Farren- In loving memory of Arthur Farren who passed away Dec 14th 1933. Ever in our thoughts Cliff, Jimmie and Sister Lizzie."
There appears to be a quite famous Farren acting family at the time but Arthur does nt seem to be mentioned as being part of it.
William Farren, son of William Farren who had at least two sons, William and Frank who worked in the theatre but I don t think any connection with Arthur.

Didn't realise it was Sister with a capital S - could she have been a nun?

Its been a little while since I posted the question, and this is actually my first visit since then. It appears that Arthur Farren was not Arthur Farren/Farran according to this reply to a similar query on another forum at the same time:

"According to the Belgrave cemetery cd which has been produced by the
Leicestershire and Rutland Family History Society I find that there is a
burial for a William Hall, aged 70 who died at the General Hospital.  His
address is 205 Humberstone Road and he was buried on 18th December 1933 in
Section B, plot 553.

Elizabeth Hall, aged 97 had previously been buried in the same plot on 3rd
July 1931 and lived at the same address.  Elizabeth Ann Hall aged 83 was
then buried in the same plot on 29th June 1949.  She had died at the Royal
Infirmary and also lived at 205 Humberstone Road."

The date and address would seem to confirm that William Hall was the female impersonator Arthur Farren, also shown by the lack of a death record for Arthur. Sorry to have wasted everyone's time in looking for a real Arthur farren/farran.

Regards
John
