Help to find a christening in Pomerania (Germany).
« on: Thursday 06 April 17 18:46 BST (UK) »
I am doing some research for a friend.

With a lot of help, I have traced his 2x great grandfather to Denmark and in the censuses he gives his birthplace as Anklam in Pomerania. His name is Johann Christian Ferdinand Schultz and he would have been born about March/April 1834.

I can be so exact because both his Danish marriage records give his age at marriage in years and months.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Jill

Like the look of this one (looks like an illegitimate birth):

Germany, Prussia, Pomerania Church Records, 1544-1945
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KF9Z-LM1
Johann Carl Christ* Ferdinand Schult
Born 16 March 1834
Kröslin, Greifswald, Pommern, Prussia Germany
mother:  Sophia Charlotte Schult

Kröslin - not far from Anklam.

Cheers

Thanks. I had found that one on Family Search but wasn't happy about the extra forename (Carl) nor that Kroslin is a good 25 miles from Anklam. If he was born in Anklam, why have him christened in Kroslin?

However, the timing is absolutely bang on.

Jill,

Some registers for Anklam can be viewed here:

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-8RSX-3Z?owc=MKHK-K68%3A171336501%2C171336502%3Fcc%3D1874205&wc=MKH2-FMS%3A171336501%2C171336502%2C171346301%2C171346601&cc=1874205

The surname Schultz certainly crops up in the registers, but I couldn't find Johann Christian Ferdinand in Mar/Apr 1834. But my screen is small and my internet connection frustratingly slow.

Good luck. Justin
