Could this be Emma in 1841 - transcribed as Chapline, but looks like Chaplin to me  :-\

HO107/601 folio 17, page 26
King Street, Hinckley

Emma Chaplin - 12 - Female Servant - born in county

In the household of Daniel Ward, Butcher.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Thanks BumbleB.....sounds likely. We still can't find any record of her birth which would be of help if her parents are named on it. This is my husbands side of the family.......my side are all Scottish so know that the records are slightly different . What sites do you use to do research apart from Ancestry and Findmypast

Is this William in 1841 - HO107/601 folio 7, page 6 - Bond Street, Hinckley

William Chaplain - 56 - Stocking maker not born in county
Ann - 53 - not born in county
Sarah - 20 - notborn in county
Elizabeth - 20 - born in county
Jane Freer - 3
William Chaplain - 6

plus two others, also Stocking Makers

I've used FindMyPast and Ancestry for these results.  Leicester records are now on FindMyPast, whilst Ancestry have Warwickshire.

Added:  apologies, I made an error - see italics  :-[

I notice in 1841 there's also an Elizabeth 20 who was born in county.
Census ref.
HO107; Piece: 601; Book: 3; Folio: 6; Page: 5
So on the face of it, it looks like the family moved to Leics. early-mid 1820's.

A possible marriage:
14/10/1806 Brinklow (abt. 2 mls. from Withybrook)
William Chaplin OTP signed X
Ann Everton OTP signed X
Wit:
Joseph Hallam
William Colledge (as coincidence would have it he's one of my ancestors).

found 1 birth so far in Brinklow:
4/9/1814: Ann Chaplin dau. of William & Ann.His occupation is stockiner.
More
Edit:
Sarah 23/3/1817 (see 1841). Fa. occupation is stockinger.
Pre 1812 Brinklow:
5/6/1808: Thomas Chaplain s of William & Anne.
The rector has kindly given mother's maiden name which is Everton. Fa. occupation stocking maker.
7/7/1811 William Chaplain.Fa. occupation frame work knitter.
Can't see any more Brinklow births so you may have to look in Leics.

Apologies for this - I've only lived in this area for 20 years, and don't have any connections here  :-[  Not sure whether stockinger and framework knitter are roughly the same occupation!!  :-\

St Mary, Hinckley  - 31 August 1820 - Elizabeth daughter of William and Ann Chaplin - FWK
