« on: Friday 07 April 17 23:02 BST (UK) »
Hi, I've two gt grandfather's who worked on the railroads. James Moffat b. 1854,he was a railway guard and lived in the motherwell area. John Hughes who lived in greenock. How can I find out more about them? I'm aware that there was several companies in those days,so I really need to find which company they worked for before looking for employment records. Thanks

Hi.

The guy in Motherwell probably worked for the Caledonian railway. The guy in Greenock could be one of a couple of railways. I would have to check where the records for those companies are. A lot of railway records are either at Kew, or the national railway museum at York.

The above link is for the Caledonian Railway society, who may also be able to help.
