Boothroyd family album for dating
« on: Saturday 08 April 17 18:27 BST (UK) »
So, I have recently inherited a huge photo album of photos all from my granddads side, and they are from his dads, my great granddads side. This has prompted me to do quite a bit of research into the family tree to try to put names to the faces.

There are a few lose photos in the front of the album which I think date a bit later than the rest of the album. The pictures in the album are all mounted on thick card with photographers details all elaborately printed around them, but the photos in the front that are lose are all postcards.

Its these more recent ones that I think I can start with as I think I may know who they are, but I wondered if anyone can shed any light on the time frame they could have been taken?

The young couple I think could be my great great uncle Herbert, and I know that he was a 'bone manipulator' in the war, but I'm not sure if it was the first or the second as I know he lived through both, I wondered if the uniform was something to do with the first world war?

I also think his wife is the lady sat with the older ladies and baby. If I'm right the very old lady in the middle is called Betty and she died in 1922 aged 87. So this picture isn't taken much before than as she really does look elderly. But I might be completely wrong on who they could be!

Hi and welcome to Rootscaht...The first one looks to be early Edwardian, the second one WW1 he is wearing the economy tunic so dates from 1916 onward...the last one I believe would have been taken during the years of the the first world war or just a bit later.
This will bring the post back up the board for Jim's attention.
It's always a good idea to post the whole photo including the corner and also the back as they can hold dating clues. The boy in the first photo could be your soldier.

Thanks for the clean up, you can see the soldiers face so much better!
Ah ok, so the boy definitely cant be born 1909 then, and more likely 1890s?
I've just noticed that the soldier and lady have wedding rings on, but they didn't get married until dec 1918, and hasn't the war ended then?? So they might be totally different people too!?
I can upload pics of the sides and backs tomorrow :)

The war had ended but this may be the only suitable outfit post war that would fit him...everything at this time was scarce and still rationed I believe.

Agree with Carol.
1st. pic after 1902 & probably up to around 1907.
The soldier is RFA/RHA/RGA.
As he's carrying a crop probably a Driver.
Although the war ended 11/11/18 men didn't get demobbed until 1919.
Can see just 1 Herbert Boothroyd Driver RHA. Can't say it's him though.

I have checked the Former Reg Number 96326 and there is a record for Herbert Boothroyd in The Medal Indexes. He was a Driver in the Royal Horse Artillary 1914-20 records
