Virgil Berry
« on: Saturday 08 April 17 20:57 BST (UK) »
I've traced one of my ancestors back to Virgil Berry reasonably easily, (maybe b. ~1734), but only found his marriage records - he married Martha Brind in 1755 and Mary Clargo in 1761. However, I can't find any birth records for him, or anything else - there are plenty of other "Berrys" around Little Hinton in that time period, but I can't work out how they relate!

I do keep finding birth dates of around 1734 on other public trees, as well as a couple more generations back, but I feel like I'm missing something as I've no idea where the sources for this information come from.

If anyone could shed some light on him it'd be much appreciated!

Welcome to rootschat, berry.

How do you know that there were not 2 Virgil Berry's?

Sorry, should have said! I'm confident as I can be that the Virgil Berry I keep finding on other public trees is the same one, as he has the same two wives (Mary Clargo and Martha Brind) as the marriage records that I found as well as (at least a subset of) the same children with the correct dates.

That's very helpful, thank you so much! I don't suppose I could ask what records you found the burial information in?

Thanks - I think I need to get out of the habit of just searching the Ancestry records!

Hello,

Just in case anyone else is searching for the same information, I did find the baptist record for Virgil dated 17 May 1734 - it has been transcribed as Virgil "Bray" rather than Berry (this has also given me the parents names as John & Elizabeth.)

The baptism transcript gives his parents as John jnr & Elizabeth which would indicate Virgils grandfather was also a John.
