Louisa Julia Humphries b.1865 Worcs
« on: Sunday 09 April 17 08:26 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for Louisa Julia Humphries b. 1865 Drakes Broughton, Worcs
In 1891 she was in St Woolos, Monm with mariner husband William Henry and daughter Clara (later known as Clarissa). Piece 4373, f.116, p.27
In 1901 she was in Penarth, no family. Piece 4989, f.81, p24
In 1911 she was a widow in Penarth with daughter Clarissa. Piece 32169. There was another child whom I can't identify.
I can't find any record of her marriage or her earlier life. Can anyone help?

That looks like her. Her grandson thought her name was Clarissa Antoinette. I found the marriage between William Henry Smith and Louisa Julia Loder in Fulham in 1890, so my guess is Clarissa was illegitimate.
Thanks very much, Jennifer.

1871 we have;
William Loader, 42, born Eastnor, Herefordshire
Mary Ann Loader, 41
William Loader, 10
Mary Loader, 7
Louisa Loader, 5, born Broughton, Worcestershire****
Alice Loader, 2

1861 they are under SODER;
William Soder, 32, born Eastnor, Herefordshire
Mary A Soder, 31
William Soder, 7/12

FreeBMD has a 1859 Marriage, William LODER/Mary Ann JONES on same page

1851 for William, Mother has remarried, he is down as Son in Law (Step Son)
Arthur Davis, 44
Mary Davis, 48
Louisa Eliza Davis, 16
Maria Davis, 15
William LODER, 22, Son in Law, Unm, Bricklayer, born Eastnor, Herefordshire****

They waited a long time to Marry.

1841 William appears to be in Worcs age 12, not born in County
With his Mother already married to Arthur Davis

Marriage on Familysearch.Org;
21 November 1830, St John Parish, Bedwardine, Worcester, England
Arthur DAVIS to Mary LODER

The Humphries connection was for a birth - of Clarissa Amy Smith b.1888 Kidderminster, mother's surname was Humphries. I now think this must be wrong, particularly as we seem to have a convincing Loder connection. When you are getting nowhere, you clutch at straws!
I think William Loder could have been the son of Mary Davis, either illegitimate or from a previous marriage, before she married Arthur. Son in law could mean he had been adopted either formally or informally by Arthur.
I do all my genealogy work in the mornings so I'll have another good look at the family tomorrow. Thanks for all you have found - it's been extremely helpful
