Judith Moger of Woolverton
« on: Sunday 09 April 17 11:41 BST (UK) »
Trying to track down the fate of Judith Moger.
Christened; 9th October 1808, Woolverton, daughter of William and Anne Moger.
Unmarried in 1834, when she was a witness at her sister's wedding in Frome.
Many of her relatives moved to Southampton, but I can find no trace of her there either.

No obvious marriages or deaths are there - post 1837 anyway.  I wonder if she died 1834-1837.

Were there any other siblings she may have witnessed marriages for?

Only other thought is she may have been buried with parents if she remained single and you know when and where they died.

Thank you for your response.
Judith's mother was buried at Compton Martin, Somerset, 15th May 1832,
Her father at Nursling, Southampton 29th June 1827.
No record for a burial at either place could be found.
Neither does she appear as witness at the other weddings of her siblings - most of whom moved to Southampton.

William Moger and Ann Collett are my 3rd great grandparents. One of their daughters, Elizabeth, married William Gouk, in Southampton in 1852. I recently found a veritable treasure trove of family photographs and documents. Included are handwritten family trees which I believe were produced by William Gouk's daughter, Ann Lee Gouk. She was trying, unsuccessfully, to make a connection between the Colletts of Somerset and Little Giddings. On one tree there is written '=Griffiths' under Judith Moger. I haven't been able to find any marriage records but I have found a census record in 1861 for a Judith Griffith, born Woolverton about 1807. It records her as unmarried and she is working as a housekeeper in Podymore, Somerset. There is also a death record for 1888 at Yeovil. I'm still searching!

Judith Griffith is interesting, I wonder if that is her.  She could have taken up with a Mr Griffith and took his name, be good to find this person on other census just in case.  There aren't that many Judiths about.

Thomas Carpenter
Henry William Hinton
Eliza Osborne

Not her unfortunately, marriage is online and shows her father as Thomas.

I've just been looking for any records on Judith's father, William Bachelor Moger(s). He was probably born at Woolverton but Can't find a birth record for him. He married Ann Collett at Kington St Michael in 1801. His first child, also William Bachelor Moger was baptised at Woolverton in 1802. Then things go downhill for William. I found a record for his discharge from London Bethlem hospital on the 11th Feb 1804. Poor soul must have been really bad to need to travel all the way to London. William then goes on to have 7 further children between 1806 and 1821. During this time the only reference I can find for him is the dissolution of a partnership in 1812 when he is described as a farmer and common brewer. William's last child, Elizabeth, was born in Southampton about 1823 and I have found a record of his burial at Nursling, just outside Southampton in 1827. I've noticed on family trees on Ancestry that his place of death was Grove Place Hospital for the insane, although I can find no evidence of this. I'd love to find out more about William but not sure where to look now.
