The 38th went to India in 1857 after the Crimea.  He shows up in the world wide army index for 1861 at Dinapore India but I suspect you have this already,
That is an extract from WO 12/5225 at the National Archives, the muster book for the battalion for that year.  He should appear in the relevant books for when he served in the regiment, there are a lot of them and they are not digitised.  Findable among these:

That said, all they do is show when he was in the regiment, more detailed records do not seem to be able to be found.

Apart from the 1861, his name does not ring a bell in any on other line sources as far as I can see.

I also found a carte de visite of a young woman in a possible wedding attire which has printed on the back a photographer in India. 
What are the possibilities of finding out if Hebry Thompson married while in India?
