Could you please give me your opinions on three things about these photos?  All the information Re. photographers is on the front of the photos.
1.  Do you think this is the same man in both photos .. the second one showing him older?
2.  What dates would you put on these photos?
3.  The child is dressed like a girl .. but could this outfit also be for a boy?

It does look like the same man- very similar features.  I think the later photo is 1897+/-2.

Missed the baby clothes.  Boys were dressed in 'girls' clothes until they were 'breeched' - not sure of age but around 5-7. I read somewhere that you could tell by the hair parting but can't find the ref.

I have one of my father's dresses of early 1900s.

I agree with Gadget...I read somewhere that in infancy, boys have a more prominent brow bone than girls.

I have similar photos taken 1902-04 where the girls are in similar dresses to yours and the boys are dressed as boys.
Although I agree with gadget and Carol ,I thought I would add mine to the mix.

Just having a re-think about the woman's outfit - the blouse and skirt combo could be 1908 +/-2.  Think Jim might be needed  :)

Thanks for all the interest in my photos everyone.   The first child born was a boy in 1892.  I thought that as there was only one child shown in the photo it must be the first born although the mothers outfit looks later than that perhaps.  Hmmm!

I would say that is the same man at different ages.

Do you have the dates of birth of the parents?
