Descendants of Elijah Dunn of Quarry Bank, Staff.

Hello!

I was hoping to find some descendants of my 3rd great grandfather, Elijah Dunn. He was born about 1818 in Quarry Bank, Staffordshire. His parents were William Dunn and Sarah Whitaker. Elijah was married to Ann Westwood. The reason I didn't put this post in the Staffordshire section is because a lot of his children moved around the country, mostly Worcestershire and Yorkshire. This is what I know of his children:

-Elizabeth b. 1846 d. 1903 - married to Howard Wootton (later the surname was Wootton Walker)

-Elias Timothy b. 1848 d. 1907 - married to Elizabeth Green

-Edwin (my 2nd great grandfather) b. 1850 d. about 1921 but that information is from a Death Certificate and I'm not 100% sure it's for the same Edwin Dunn - married to Betsy Brooks

- Ambrose b. 1852 d. 1856

- Ann b. 1853 d. 1941 - married to Wittam Simpson and William Haw

- George Elijah b. 1855 d. 1915 - married to Mary Roberts

- Matilda b. 1857 d. unknown

- Roland b. 1860 d. 1942 - married to Emily Bradford

- Eli b. and d. 1861

- David (son of Elijah Dunn and Dinah or Diana Webb nee Skidmore) b. 1870 d. unknown - married to Eliza Pearson

If I am following the correct family Betsy was a widow before 1901

Well she's put herself down as a Widow in the 1901 and 1911 Census but I can't find any proof that Edwin died before then. On his son's marriage certificate he isn't written as deceased but that isn't enough proof to say he wasn't.  In the 1891 Census Betsy is living with her mother but is still married though Edwin is not on the Census with them and their son is not living with her at the time of the Census.

At the time of the 1891 census George is visiting another family in Wollescote -and Betsy is Housekeeper to her mother but entered as Betsy Brooks Married - so not a very good entry

There is a tree on A*****y which names George as George Henry Brooks Dunn

I haven't found a birth reg in that name

Yes that's probably my tree. On his school admission form he's registered as George Harry B Dunn and then there's another school record where he is George Harry Brooks Dunn. The Brooks makes sense since his mother's maiden name was Brooks. It's dropped later though. I've never seen his name include the Brooks on any other document I have of his.

I think your tree is a little muddled

Unfortunately there are 2 Edwin Dunn b c.1850 Kingswinford

There is a tree which has Edwin as the son of Elijahand him marrying Rosa in 1875
the other tree has Edwin son of Elijah and Ann marrying Betsy Brooks

you have Edwin as living Oldbury in 1911 - that was the Edwin married to Rosa

and I think the West brom death reg in 1921 is the death of Edwin married to Rosa

1881 census there is Edwin married to Betsy and also Edwin married to Rosa

1871 one Edwin is with mother Dinah
1871 one Edwin is with parents Edw John & Esther

1861 one Edwin is with parents Elijah and Ann
1861 one Edwin is with parents Edwin & Ann
