McCargo
« on: Thursday 13 April 17 16:57 BST (UK) »
Hi

Looking for a marriage for Joseph Patrick McCargo in County Antrim.

He was born in 1918 son of Alexander McCargo and his wife, Mary McCluskey.

He married prior to 1938 as a son, Sean John, was born around this time.

Thank you

Sue Roberts

Only marriage in N.I. I can find is for a Joseph McCargo (20 Oct.1940 Belfast) to a Margaret Carlin. GRONI's index doesn't list middle names but you can view the certificate online after registering and purchasing a few credits to see if father in Alexander, etc.
https://geni.nidirect.gov.uk/

Added- are you sure parents were Alexander and Mary? The surname is not common in Ireland and there is an Alexander McCargo & wife Bridget in Belfast with a son Alexander (as well as a person named Sue posting on Facebook in 2013 looking for them)

There's a marriage on 25th December 1915, Belfast:
Mary McCluskey to John McCargo

(Found on geni.nidirect)

And a birth for Alexander, 27th May 1917.
That's all there is before the 100 year cut-off date.

Do you want to revise any of those dates, as they don’t add up. Alexander born 1870, died 1844 married to Margaret born 1827.

Alexander McCargo married Margaret Montgomery on 8.9.1893 at Inver 1st Presbyterian church in Larne. He was a seaman and his address was Islandmagee. His father was James Stuart, a labourer. (Suggesting perhaps Alexander’s mother had remarried).

Alexander and Margaret in 1901:

Family look to have been in Anderston by the 1911 census. A total of 8 of them in 2 different references (644/11 9/13 & 9/14).

Alexander’s death is listed in Partick for 1944. That should confirm his parents names and also tell you whether Maggie was still alive then. I have searched for a death for her but did not find one.

This might be Maggie’s parents in 1901:

Probate abstract from the PRONI wills site:

Probate of the Will of Samuel Montgomery late of Ballycronanmore Islandmagee County Antrim Retired Farmer who died 4 July 1907 granted at Belfast to William Montgomery Farmer and Robert Bailie M'Ninch Solicitor.

The will itself is on-line on the PRONI wills site:
