John Pritchard , Bangor , in 1841
« on: Friday 14 April 17 11:35 BST (UK) »
I'd be grateful if anyone could find the above in the 1841 census, please. He was born in 1784/5 , and died in 1845. His address at his death was given as 'Pen Dre' (Pendref, I'd imagine)

Hi,
Have you considered John Prichard, 50, farmer living at Mount Street, Bangor with Mary Prichard, 50 (presumably wife), Ellenor Jones, 19, F.S. and Margaret Williams, 11, Ind. - all born in county?

I can not find your John Pritchard in the 1841 Census for Pendre, Bangor but wondered if your dates are correct since there is a John Prichard aged 65 living in Pendre in the 1851 Census. He is a widower, slate stower and born in Llanllechid. He is father-in-law to the head of the house who is missing as is his wife. The first name of the household is a 15 year old John Owen son of a mariner. The family appears in the 1841 Census less John Prichard. The father is John Owen aged 30 master mariner and presumably his wife Mary Owen aged 25.

The John Pritchard I'm looking for came from Llanllechid (with a mother called Mary), so it looks more likely than the one who died in 1845. I'll have another look at the deaths. Diolch yn fawr iawn.

I think I've sorted the various relationships out, but I can only find the grand-daughter, Mary Elizabeth, as a boarder in 1861. John Pritchard might have died by then, and his grandsons might well have followed their father to sea.

If it is the right John Prichard I believe he was alive in 1861. In the 1861 census there is a John Prichard aged 75 living alone at 10 Field Street, Bangor. He was born in Llanllechid and was a labourer.
I cannot find him in the 1871 Census. There are a number of John Prichard's who passed away in the Bangor area between 1861 and 1871 but a John Pritchard who died in Q1, 1870 aged 85 stands out Vol. 11b page 414.
