just to round it off (as I have no idea what info you already have) I checked the GRO births index and found an Ethel May Harper, mmn Norman registered Q2 1901 Houghton le Spring
and a Margaret Harper mmn Norman registered Q2 1899 Houghton le Spring
which adds a little more weight to the possibility.

Free BMD has a Nicholas Harper married Mary Norman Q3 1889 Houghton le Spring which looks a strong possibility to be the parents of these girls

Hi Bramhallbill,

I am looking at the Ward's Directory (Gateshead section) for 1939 which is held at North Shields library in the local studies department.  There is no Front Street listed.
However, going off the clue given by Tickettyboo, I have found that there was a G W Robson who was a bus driver, who lived at 79 Third Street Gateshead.  I wonder if this might be the George which Tickettyboo discovered living with Ethel?
