I am looking at the Ward's Directory (Gateshead section) for 1939 which is held at North Shields library in the local studies department. There is no Front Street listed.
However, going off the clue given by Tickettyboo, I have found that there was a G W Robson who was a bus driver, who lived at 79 Third Street Gateshead. I wonder if this might be the George which Tickettyboo discovered living with Ethel?
