1841 census in Montrose. James Watt, 30, baker and confectioner with Christina Watt, 25; Helen Watt, 15; John Moore, 4; Jane Ann Watt, 5 months; two apprentices and a servant. This looks like James Watt and Christina Gordon, but I don't see a marriage date. Their daughterJane Ann was born 28 December 1840.

They also had
James Wilson, 23 October 1842 (note the middle name)
Christina, 18 April 1844
Robertina Helen, 15 May 1846

Also Alexander Watt, 26, merchant service, with Mary Ann, 22, and William, 3 months. Looks like Alexander Watt and Mary Ann Hutcheon, married 9 February 1840 in Montrose, with son William Hutcheon Watt, born 8 March 1841 in Montrose.

They also had
James Birnie, 12 February 1843
Alexander, 11 February 1845
Robert, 18 October 1847
George, 10 November 1849
John, 26 September 1851

Could these be the other two sons of William Watt and Ann Wilson?
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Just a minor point, but Northumbria did not become the name of a formal administrative entity until the 1970s. In the time you are interested in, it was Northumberland

Wow.  I don't know...but it easily could be    ...and could explain how John could come straight back to Montrose as a baker  ...into the business of his brother  ... and might explain why his son William went to sea...followed his uncle Alex in to the service....     

I have learned so much tonight (in Melbourne, so night time here now)

So, I wonder if William Watt, the father (my GGG Grandfather) was also a baker?  Time to look for a death record.. :D

Yes..I found him..

He died in 1839, William Watt, listed as a Baker, In Murray Street Montrose :D   8) 8)
