Vontournhondt
« on: Monday 17 April 17 10:34 BST (UK) »
Two boys (possibly brothers), David W & Louis E, with the surname Vontournhondt were boarded in Suffolk in 1911, later sent to Canada in 1923 through the Fegan Homes project. Many were sent to farming homes in southern Ontario.

Can anyone please help with more info on either of these?

K

I can see a David W Vontournhondt married an Alice Livingstone in the Leeds area, W Yorks in 1952 but nothing after that. Did he return to Canada?

Thanks Sandra

Yes almost certainly the same.  Their father Oscar was a Belgium national & the couple appear to have had 5 children.  Their brother Oscar ended up in a boys home in Bath in 1911.  It is the two boys that went to Canada that I am most interested in.

many thanks

Many thanks Christine

Please see my post on the Yorkshire board http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=769666.0  , which has proved very successful.

If anyone can add anything more about Lewis I would be most grateful.  I believe from responses I have had he may have stayed in Canada.

Lewis probably passed away between 1965 and 1968 Christine - he doesn't appear with wife Irene on that 1968 Voters List - 2116 Gerrard Street East Greenwood, Ontario.
Notice Vantournhondt surname at 2198 Gerrard Street E 1995 - 1999.

Many thanks for following that up for me Sandra.  I now have plenty of info on the 2 boys who were sent to Canada in 1923.
