where did marriage take place
« on: Monday 17 April 17 14:19 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help please
many years ago I visited the Bedford records office and I found the Marriage of a Charles Frost and Margret Bull. I know they eventually lived in Potsgrove but their marriage stated woburn. I was always under the impression they married at St Mary woburn. I have Googled and St Marys was built in 1869 and Charles and Margret married in 1821.
So they could have married in Potsgrove ?
Woburn ?
Leighton Buzzard ?
I am so angry with myself for not checking this all those years ago, can anyone help please.

Maybe the 1869 church replaced an earlier one?

The church, on Park Street, Woburn, was built to the designs of the architect Henry Clutton between 1865 and 1868 and paid for by William Russell, 8th Duke of Bedford. It replaced the old parish church in the village which, except for the tower, was demolished when the new church opened.[/b ]

So they may have married in the old church then, was it called st marys or does anyone know if it was known by a different name. Could it have been where the church built later was placed.

Have a look at this, it looks as if the new church was built in a different place to replace the old church.

The older church which you will see in the village is what remains of the medieval church of Woburn. While modern St Mary's was under construction, much of it was demolished, but not the elegant tower which had been restored by Blore in 1830. Today it houses the Woburn Heritage Centre, a museum of local life and history which is well worth a visit.

The Woburn Heritage Centre is located in Old St Mary’s Church on Bedford Street, Woburn and contains a museum of local history and a tourist information point.

That site has a photo and drawing of the old church

If you did not already know Charles Frost's abode was Leighton Buzzard when he married Margaret Bull at Woburn in 1821.
