ok, found John COULSON bap 26 Dec 1802 (born 9 Oct 1802) parents Matthew and Jane at Stamfordham. - Is this the right age for your John? I note that the children's names are the same as on your tree, but in a different order.

Had a look at some newspapers, couldn't find anything that is definitely your Matthew, however there is a mention of Matthew COULSON at Stamfordham in 1805 in the Newcastle Courant (signed petition for "bringing to justice rogues and thieves"). I can pm you a copy if you like.

Also just noticed that the Bay Horse Inn is across the road from the church! There is a reference in 1844 of an event "at the House of Mrs Coulson, Bay Horse Inn, Stamfordham" in the Newcastle Courant, so some evidence of a connection.  ;)

And thank you for confirming a connection with The Bay Horse Inn. I found the Bay Horse Inn on Google Map and found it has sadly closed! Very pretty little village with two pubs! Opposite the
The Bay Horse Inn is the Swinbourne Inn. It would be interesting to know how long the Coulsons were at the Inn.

I am sorry, I am a little new at this. What do you mean when you say you can "PM" a copy of the report about Matthew Coulson "bringing to justice rogues and thieves"?

What if Jane changed her religion after Matthew died?

Sorry, my mistake  :-[ - yes, William bap 21 Nov 1790

What if Jane changed her religion after Matthew died?

Well, for whatever reason, the children were baptised C of E. There was a Presbyterian place of worship at Stamfordham, and a Weslyan not far away if they wanted to have their children there.

I'll send you a personal message with copies of the newspaper items - it should appear in the "My Messages" tab at the top of the screen.  ;)

Will keep on looking for Matthew's baptism. I haven't followed it through yet, but I think the Halwhistle Matthew that emeltom found can be accounted for in 1841, so not yours.
