Cross tree farm and Corbins farm, Ewloe (anything on these)
« on: Tuesday 18 April 17 15:31 BST (UK) »
Hi William Brown 1814-1875
Married Priscilla Powell 1827-1907
The 1871 census shows them at what looks like Corbins farm by Cross Tree farm Ewloe.
The death certificate shows he died at Cross tree farm, getting its name from the burnt tree.
Is the anyone who has any local knowledge about these farms. I think Cross tree farm became the vets. Corbins I take it has gone? Probably all knowledge about these farms has gone, but anything is most welcome.
regards

Some mentions of Cross Tree farm here, but one is Gresford, one Buckley , one Ewloe .
Census information is Crown Copyright (see: www.nationalarchives.gov.uk)

Have a look at the location on the side by side map to see if any of your places still stand:

Once you have found the location you may be able to spot them on google street view (if they are not too far from the road or obscured by vegetation).  :)

I am trying to find William and Priscilla on the 1871 census as posted above, but for some reason I can't find them. I wanted to have a look at the nearby farms to try to work out where Corbin's Farm is/was. The census image you posted is too blurry to decipher much detail.

Any clues about how to track the family down would be welcome ....

I'm using Ancestry Tryweryn. :)

By the way, I think you are right about Crosstree Farm now being the "Village Vets". It'a bit of a shame they planted a motorway beside the farm.  :(

The side by side maps are excellent because you can hover your cursor over a point on one map (house, farm, street etc) and see the same spot on the other map.
