Convict Search - Samuel CHETTLE
« on: Tuesday 18 April 17 21:07 BST (UK) »
200 years ago In April 1817 my Great x 5 Grandfather Samuel Chettle was was "transported" to Australia on board the Lord Eldon for stealing a dead pig, no doubt to feed his family. Samuel Chettle did not return to England and he left 3 children in Leicester, the youngest was born in June 1817.

It is not known where or when Samuel Chettle died.

Any information would be appreciated.

Tom

There is an inquest into the death of prisoner Samuel Chettle at Parramatta on 19 Mar 1822, he died from a "visitation from God".

Hi Jo,

Thank you so much for the response. This will really help put together some missing elements to our family tree and explains alot. May I ask whether there are any links to this information on the web and where I may find it?

Thanks,

Tom

Hi Jo,

Scrub my last comment - I have been able to locate the document. Thank you so much for your sign posting. I realise alot of the burial sites have gone in that area. I don't suppose you or anyone would know where Samuel would have likely been buried?

Cheers,

Tom

Here is a live link to some info about St John's Cemetery, Parramatta.  Perhaps Samuel was buried there.

Thank you for the information. It doesn't look as though he was buried here however I have made contact with them.

Thank you again,

Tom

Hi Jo,

I just wondered which site you found Parramatta on? I picked up something from Ancestry but just wanted to confirm your source.

Thank you so much (again)

Tom
