Vittorio Fiorentino
« on: Wednesday 19 April 17 03:48 BST (UK) »
I am looking for any information on my great grandparents, Vittorio Fiorentino and Vincenza Cassotta.  I know that Vittorio was born on December 9, 1865 in Melfi, Italy.  He came to America in 1892.  I am wondering how to find information on possibly finding who their parents were.

Vittorio's death record in NY gives his parents' names:
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:2WPK-R3J

There is also a passport application in 1904:
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QVJG-BP5D

Now, some records for Melfi are online (NOT name searchable from the top page)
https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1483052

With the date it's not hard to find Vittorio's birth record:

In the margin appears to be a reference to  Cassotta, Maria Vincenza, 6 August 1891 - marriage?
Sure enough, here it is, although hard to read...

Thank you so much for your help. Now to just translate those documents.   :) I have had no luck finding out the names of my great grandmother's parents.  Her name was Vincenza Cassotta, born 1865, I believe in Melfi as well, and her death was 9-6-1942 in Staten Island.  Thank you again for all the help.  This site has been so helpful to me.  I really appreciate any and all help.

Sharon, my name is Deanna and  we are cousins! My great grandmother was Carmela Fiorentino! Her brother was Vittorio!! Her father Matteo Fiorentino was  born in Bella, Italy and then moved to Melfi. I have all of the Italian records for all of them on Ancestry on my tree, if you belong to ancestry you can look it up or I can email you what  I have if you have not found them all already. I will be going to Melfi next year for the first time. I am so excited. What was interesting was the mother of Vittorio and Carmela came to America when she was 73 years old after Matteo her husband died! My mother is named Carmela, after Carmela Fiorentino. :) So nice to meet you. This is so interesting!  Deanna

If you order the death certificate online that will give you her parents names.  I did that for my great grandparents  that  I did not know their  parents names.  I cannot believe we are related from the Fiorentino family.  I just did a random google of Matteo Fiorentino and I found your post!
