Oliver street Birkenhead .house hopping family

Hi I'm wondering why a family  would live on the same street but different house numbers

1861. No 111 Oliver street
Edward Healey 41 wife Sarah 39 nee Grundy and 3 children Mary Ann 18 Sarah 14 George 1

1871  no 109
 Edward and Sarah with a neice Martha Healey
                House appears to be divided  shared by (son in law )Thomas Rixon .. wife Sarah nee Healey
                 

1881 no 118
Sarah aged 60 with both daughters and their families  Hallis and Rixon ( mistranscribed as Wallace and Rillon)

1891 no 122
 Sarah aged 70 with daughter Sarah Rixon and grandsons

1901   129 Oliver street
  Sarah aged 78 with daughter Sarah Rixon both widowed

Many streets had Landlords who bought 10 - 12 houses in a block as an investment when they were getting built - so not uncommon for a family to move around a few house in the street .

Do you have any other documents than the census?

I have noticed something similar and think it could be that the houses are renumbered if more are built in between or the road extended.

You can use the georeferencing function on one of the online map sites, to compare the area over time.

.I wonder if the houses varied greatly in size
Or if they filled them with boarders when they didn't have members of their own families
