Charles Campbell and Mary Thomson of Greenock
« on: Wednesday 19 April 17 12:16 BST (UK) »
I am currently doing research on Charles Campbell and Mary Thomson, who married in 1801 in Edinburgh and had James Campbell in 1819 in Greenock. All I know is that Charles was a hosier and that Mary's father's name was William, listed as being from a place called Newtown, Douglas - I have recently found it was temporarily named this and is actually called Newton Stewart. I cannot find any info on birth dates or death dates for James' parents. I have tried through ScotlandsPeople, but to no avail. Can anyone help?

Thanks for this! Where did you find this info? I searched the census through ScotlandsPeople, but I couldn't find this!

Hi Lauren

The main source for the census images is always Scotlands People. There are some transcript services for the Scottish censuses, some free (such as Freecen www.freecen.org.uk) and some paid for via subscriptions such as Ancestry or Findmypast.

Thanks for the info. I can't find records of their deaths but will keep searching for their death certificates.
