Annie Agnes GAINEY
« on: Thursday 20 April 17 08:30 BST (UK) »
I have just been told that my grandmother, Annie Agnes GAINEY  was employed at the Commercial Hotel, Warialda, as a coloured cleaner in the mid to late 1920s. My research to date indicates that she was white. Her parents were Hilton William Ambrose Gainey and Elizabeth Agnes Jane Gilligan. She was born in Tingha on 13 November, 1907. Is there any way I can establish why/how/if she was actually coloured? All suggestions will be gratefully pursued. Maxell

Who gave you this information?

The photos of her and her parents on your tree don't appear to support the statement.

Perhaps you may like to post them here for others who may wish to help you.

I agree Cando. However, I like to check anything out that comes to me. The information came from a distant relative who received it from someone on a land council. I like things to be established with proof, not just hearsay. I have attached a photo of Annie's parents. I will post a photo of her in a separate post - they seem to be too big to post. Maxell
