Helmington Row - Family: GUY
« on: Thursday 20 April 17 12:47 BST (UK) »
Hi

My great(x4) grandmother, Martha Clarkson Guy was living in High Pantry Row, Helmington Row, Sunnybrow on the 1861 census.  I believe she died approx 1865, i would like to visit the area to see if i can see a gravestone which may give me more information but the church in Helmington Row was started until 1889.

Could anyone point me in the direction of which cemetery(s) i could start my search?

Also, if anyone has more information about the family please get in touch?

Thanks
Debi

Welcome to RootsChat
At that date Sunnybrow was in the parish of Crook St. Catherine.

A previous entry on rootschat has surnames listed - Guy being one of them but you would have to do more research - durham records office may help you.

I don't know when Crook cemetery opened but if you turn left at the top of Jobs Hill Bank, road to Tow Law, the cemetery is along that road.

but the church in Helmington Row was started until 1889.

The  cemetery was created in 1889 along with the now demolished church as part of the Sunnybrow St. John Parish.
