Alexander Saphire ? From Demerara

I came across a 1829 baptism record which was unusual

Where is Demerara

It's just one  line and there are only 3 names their entries have child s name followed by :father and mother first names and surname then residence

I presume the child's name is Joseph

Entry is 19th may 1829 Liverpool
Joseph Alexander Sapphire (Sophie?) A man of colour.a native of Demerara aged 23 years
