Mary Ann WILLIS burial - matching death record?
« on: Friday 21 April 17 02:09 BST (UK) »
I've found a burial record for Mary Ann WILLIS, born 1805, died 5 July 1859, buried 8 July 1859  St. Bartholomew's, Blacktown, residence Rooty Hill.

Looking for the corresponding entry in the BDMs, I found
WILLIS  MARY A   5467/1859  JAMES DIED WINDSOR WINDSOR

Is this a match?

I would suggest it is very likely, as the NSW BDM search option to check dates matches up to 05/07/1859, no others with surname WILLIS anywhere in NSW noted with that same date for death.

Thanks JM, I didn' think to check the actual date of the BDMs.  It was the Windsor registration that threw me a bit. I know Blacktown's not far away.

Just another thought - would an 1859 certificate have her husband's name and any children and also her father's surname?

It should,  official transcriptions option will give same info as on official dc.   Civil registration commenced 1 March 1856.   The index has James as her Dad's given name.   Do you need any info on him?   I should have noted that South Creek runs into the Hawkesbury out near Windsor, and several of South Creek's 'tributaries' (can Creeks have tributaries?) could be considered as passing through the Rooty Hill area.

Thanks JM, that's good news. Sounds like I have the right death.

I'm hoping that her father was James Adlam, and that Mary Ann Willis is Mary Ann Irons, nee Adlam (Henry Wellesley 1836) , but using the surname Willis after she was refused permission to marry Robert Willis in 1844. Her husband, John Irons (Augusta Jessie 1835) , died in Hobart on 2 Feb 1835, just 15 days after his arrival.
