Hi my name is Montess Hughes.

I am seeking any information in regards to my grandfather John Hughes (see image below) born 1926, St Helens, Lancashire, I have obtained all I can in New Zealand before my grandfathers death, Wellington NZ 1967 age 41.

At this stage I'm trying to find out more information in regards to contacting any living relatives that may be able to point me in the right direction to seek/gain any information in regards to the Hughes/Mee family as well as specific information about John Hughes.

Age: 41
Lived in NZ: 21 years
Date of death: 2 November 1967
Place of birth is: St Helens, Lancashire, England.
Father: Albert Hughes
Mother: Elizabeth Hughes

John Hughes birth certificate reads:
DOB: 1926
Father: Albert Hughes
Mother: Elizabeth Hughes formerly Mee
Residence: 75 Stanhope Street St Helens

First of all a very warm welcome to Rootschat.Looking at your Tree it seems that it is your Albert Hughes born c 1869  who is your brick wall.The marriage entry to Minnie J Maddock states his father was a Thomas Hughes.He is given in Census entries as born in Chester in c 1869.The nearest birth I can find knowing the area is for an Albert Hughes born in the Great Boughton area of Cheshire in 1868,Volume 8a,Page 347.The birth is given in the Jul/Aug/Sep quarter.Rather strangely for the new GRO Birth Index no Mother's maiden name is given as is the case with the new Index.

In 1871 Albert is given as the Grandson of a Samuel and Mary Ankers in Cheshire.I'm struggling though to find any Ankers/Hughes angle.In 1881  he is given as the nephew of a John and Ann Jones in Cheshire.

Probable baptism gives that one with mother Martha Ankers (Father William Bradshaw deleted from entry)

Someone else who is supposedly involved with all this is a Jemima Oldfield born in Ruthin Denbighshire in 1848.
