1848
28th of March Contracted Donald Clark Stuarton of this Pa-
rish & Jane Clark Campbelltown Arderseir who after 2 sev. procs. married
The date is not that of the marriage, but their contract, when they told the session clerk that they intended to marry and the first part of the entry was made. Donald's residence, which is in the parish, is given. Other entries on the page give occupations, but there is nothing for Donald*. Jane's residence is given, but it is in a different parish (Arderseir). The last part of the entry was probably made after they married ("who after 2 sev[eral] proc[lamation]s married"). The marriage would have been within forty days of the initial contract. There is no indication of whether the marriage took place in Petty or Arderseir. Usually when the couple come from different parishes there are entries in the registers of both parishes.
*The 1851 census shows the family at "Stuartown", Petty.
- Donald Clark, 46, general dealer, vintner, b. Nairnshire, Cawdor
- Jane Clark, 36, b. Inverness-shire, Arderseir
- Jane Clark, daughter, 2, b. Petty
- Hugh W., son, 10m, b. Petty
- Mary McDonald, house servant, b. Ross and Cromarty, Urray
Because of the age and birthplace on the census, this must be a different Donald Clark from the one you are looking for.
