I have joined this thread a bit late. The transcriber has possibly found the name Tankersley and thought it could be correct. I checked Tankersley and it does exist - predominately in Yorkshire. No tie up to the New York immigrants.

There's a death for a Catherine Tienken in Brooklyn in 1893, with whom the Catherine on the NYPL has a matching date of birth.
