John Anderson, Ballyshannon
« on: Friday 21 April 17 19:51 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to trace John Anderson who was born in Ballyshannon, Co Donegal 2 January 1881.
I haven't been able to find a trace of him since 1901 Census in Ireland.
I have found a John Anderson a passenger on the Bavarian in March 1905 to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada aged 24 and wondered if anyone could give me any further information.

Thank you

For reference-

birth certificate gives parents as Thomas Anderson & Catherine Moore

This looks like the Anderson family in 1901-

Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

His occupation on the manifest is given as farmer and his destination Winnipeg. He would have travelled from Halifax to Winnipeg by train.

John's ticket number was 8886. Ticket number 8887 was held by a Rbt (? Robert) J McIntyre, also b. Donegal, a farmer, destination Winnipeg. This suggests they knew each other and tracing the possible friend may help with John. John Anderson seems to be a rather common name.

There is a tree on A*****y that indicates John had a brother William David who also came to Canada with his wife and children and they settled in Winnipeg. Is it yours? If this is John's brother one would expect John to be in the area as well, although he seems a bit elusive at the moment.

That's him polarbear.
It's not my tree and I have followed up on William David who immigrated in 1913.
I have met this family through Rootschat, but was unaware that they had found John.
I'm not on that other website, so I can't look this up.

Thank you for your help in my search.
