Auguste Pierre de LAURET, criminal registers 1834
« on: Saturday 22 April 17 02:21 BST (UK) »
Auguste Pierre de LAURET was tried for fraud at Clerkenwell sessions 10 June, 1834, and found "Not Guilty".  Are the records for this trial available anywhere?  The only newspapers I can access are those in the 19th Century British Newspapers (Gale collection) where I cannot see any mention of the trial but I'm not sure that this collection is fully comprehensive.

Auguste Pierre de LAURET emigrated to Australia in 1839 where he was a successful farmer, later using a fuller name - Auguste Pierre Clement de Guerry Chevalier de Laurent - and the title Marquis.  His documents say he was born in Pondicherry, 1811 to French parents.  There seem to be few references to his life prior to arriving in Australia - according to one record he lived in France in 1816, moving to "Great Britain" in 1830. He was introduced to the Governor of NSW by letters from the Marquiss (sic) of Normanby and Lord Beresford to whom he became known through Mr Hope.

Any help with M. de LAURET would be great, and especially re the fraud trial.

Austin s/b Auguste? or was this her sons solicitor?

It's odd her will was probated in London and not Australia, did they still have connections to London?

Clement de Lauret, Gent, native of Pondicherry.
From Havre, has a passport from the French Government
In remarks "Left October last for Southhampton"
Name of Bearer  Auguste de Lauret

It was the native of Pondicherry that caught my attention, then to have the document in the name of Clement de Lauret but sign Auguste de Lauret.
