1939 Register - Completed with thanks
« on: Saturday 22 April 17 08:53 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help with deciphering the name of the first person taken from the 1939 Register for Willesden. It has been transcribed as Beatrice Melmatz but I can't find anything like that in any other records.  I have included the second name as the E and H in Joseph look similar to the letters in the first name.

The given name looks like BEARTIC to me.

Any help with finding out more about this person would be much appreciated.

Per the 1939 Voters List the occupants of 316A Neasden Lane were Beatrice Melmoth and Joseph James Gerrish.

The first name does appear to be Beartic, but the surname is Melmoth.

It is probably just a case of whoever wrote this being unsure of the spelling of Beatrice.  :)

Obviously not relevant to the enquiry, but there is a strange 1820 Gothic novel called "Melmoth the Wanderer" by Charles Maturin,an Irish clergyman.I read it many years ago.

Thanks to you all for your help :)

I'd tried MELMATH, MELMOTH makes much more sense just shows how important extra sets of eyes can be.
