Alice Whitehead missing from 1841
« on: Saturday 22 April 17 10:51 BST (UK) »
Alice Whitehead born about 1822 possibly Padiham/Simonstone but not traced on any Lancs census 1841. Father's name according to her second marriage certificate was John. Alice married Samuel Hardman 17 Oct 1847, her residence Butterworth and his Buckley. Child Hannah born Jan 1848 at Newhey Butterworth and died soon after, also dad Samuel died end of 1848.
Widow Hardman not traced on any Lancs census for 1851. I tried looking under Whitehead in case she reverted to maiden name.
Alice married Benjamin Crook on 1 Jan 1853 at Rochdale Parish Church, both residing in Summerseat and the family is found in 1861 at Fall Barn Newchurch and in 1871 at Elton Bury moving to Canning St Accrington by 1881. She was my great gran's grandma but it is difficult to find her beginnings due to a very common name and lots of moving around. Could you help please, I have used F my P and Lancs BMD sites. Thank you Sue

What was her fathers occupation on the marriage you have

Based on Padiham birthplace could this be her baptism from LancashireOPC

24 Sep 1820 at St Leonard, Padiham, Lancashire
Alice Whithead - Daughter of John Whithead & Margaret
Born on 11 Sep 1820
Abode Padiham
Fathers occupation     Grocer

Daughter Ellen Hardman was born Ewood Bridge in 1852 according to the 1861 census so I would imagine that this is Alice in 1851:

Ewood Bridge, Haslingden
Alice Hardman, Lodger, Widow, 30, Cotton Weaver, born Accrington

Thank you Pauline J.  Father's occupation in 1853 is said to be Carter.  I did look at the baptism record but went off it because I am currently waiting for Alice's death certificate (Oct-Dec 1893) from GRO and if this refers to my Alice (said to be age 70 at death) her birth year will be around 1823 not 1820. Will soon know hopefully.

You sadly cannot rely on ages on death certificates as it is reliant on the information known by the person registering the death.

Sorry Mo, could you please tell me the route to this 1851 census record. I have tried all the usual ways in Find my Past. It is very likely likely to be my Alice and would like to have the record. Thanks Sue

Hi,

FindMyPast have her age transcribed as 35 not 30.  If you blow the image up you can see the 30.  The other marks are enumerator marks.
